Bukit Aman wants to set up new digital crime department

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman hopes to set up a new department which will focus on digital crime, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the department will be based on cyber technology and focus on the challenges brought on by digitalised crime and increasingly complex technology.

"It cannot be denied that the duties and responsibilities of the police in the context of crime are now increasingly challenging and complex.

"Digital technology has revolutionised the world and the landscape of our daily lives," he said in his Police Day speech at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here on Monday (March 25).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also attended the Police Day celebrations.

He said technological progress has also contributed to a variety of new crime trends, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

"For that, in an effort to strengthen the service delivery system, the police needs to prepare a department with assets and equipment in line with the advancement of modern policing technology.

"This is why we intend to establish a new department based on cyber technology," he said adding that he hoped that this plan would be considered by the Government so that they could continue to provide the best policing services to the country.
